Thursday 25th December - walks ***** – Levington Marina for Christmas picnic – sunny but cold and breezy.

The Charity Christmas day dip in the sea was cancelled due to strong NE winds making it very cold with some big waves rolling in, definitely the right decision especially as two drowned at a similar event down in Cornwall :( For a change Christmas Day dawned sunny, Mag had already been on her early morning prom stroll, when she returned I decided to drive down to Felixstowe pier to watch the Dare to dip cold water swimmers go in at sunrise! I parked by the pier at 7.45 and waited for the sunrise and a large group of dippers started to turn up. I got some nice pics as they had a brief dip in the sea which was fairly steady but with some nice waves rolling in, it was low tide so these were the best conditions, it certainly got rougher as the tide came in!!! It was very cold and I was pleased to get back home to sort my pics out with the electric blanket on, we treated ourselves to a cuppa and yummy fruit bread toast, we know how to live! We usually do something on Christmas day, bike to Falkenham Church, birdwatch at Levington once and I did windsurf foil a couple of years ago but this year it was too windy to bike, too cold to windsurf so I packed a picnic, absolute brilliant chicken sandwiches with loads of butter, lettuce, stuffing with cranberry sauce and a mince pie of course and I took Mag on a mystery tour in the van:) We arrived at Levington Marina at 12.30 in wall to wall sunshine spotting three cormorant's drying their wings and a pippet actually landed on our van, in fact it turned into a fantastic birdwatching day! We parked by the River Orwell with lovely views down to Felixstowe docks where all the cranes were up as they are not working for a couple of days! The river looked great in the sun, the tide was fairly high which looked good for windsurfing even with the wind ENE! You could not have a better Christmas dinner it was absolute delicious, I then gave Mag a couple of presents which luckily arrived on time and one for our cats, a electric mouse which they love! We then had our walk setting off along the end of the marina where we were lucky enough to spot a kingfisher, through the tall tree leading to Loompit lake where there was only a few swans and ducks and one person fly fishing in a boat! We reached one of the best beaches in Suffolk before returning along the high path and back to the van spotting some long tail tits, always a bonus!
We had already had a video call from our Grandson Arlo in Devon now we waited for our Granddaughter Maeva to arrive for present opening ang tea! She arrived with her Mum and Dad at four looking wonderful in a pink tutu and she knows all the moves:) We had a brilliant time as Marva opened her many gifts, she loved the knitted dolls that Mag made, she is clever and the vet trolly my sister got her, she was a very lucky girl. We had a buffet tea which was easy to put together and Jay brought the dessert.
To be honest it was one of our best Christmas days ever, unusally sunny with a top picnic and walk and some quality time with the Grandchildren, just perfect!
